Taking Action #ProtectPublicLands

Bryan Papé on

IMPACT IN ACTION

Oftentimes it can feel like one’s voice doesn’t matter but I can assure you, yours does. I recently traveled to our nation’s capital with other outdoor executives to join the Outdoor Industry Association in letting our elected officials know that public lands are important not only to our industry but to all Americans. From the standpoint of a business owner that employs over 35 people and a contributor both personally and professionally to the $887 billion outdoor recreation economy, our collective voice is being heard in DC. We (Washington Coalition, pictured below) met with Senators and House Representatives and they were very attentive to our industry’s stance that public lands should stay in public hands.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 13792

If you’re reading this, chances are good you’re an active person who enjoys the outdoors and appreciates our national parks and monuments. However, public access to and protection of these places are under threat, specifically national monuments like Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante. President Trump’s Executive Order 13792 issued on April 26th directs the US Department of the Interior to review 27 national monuments designated since January 1996. The Interior Department opened a public comment period to inform Secretary Zinke’s “recommendations for Presidential actions, legislative proposals, or other appropriate actions.”

TAKE ACTION
Until May 26th, you have the chance to comment directly on the issue, to speak up and be heard by the Department of the Interior. Our industry needs you, but more importantly, our public lands need you.
