Empowerful Podcast: New Color Series, Cascara | Jared Truby

The Empowerful Podcast was created to share the profound stories of movers and shakers who are positively impacting the world. Together, we believe we can amplify that change. We live by the motto of an old African Proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

The world is full of color, and we're telling stories about them. Stories of people and places we've been shaped by throughout our pursuit of empowering people for a better future. Learn more about and shop our new color collection here.

In today's episode  the first in our Empowerful Podcast, New Color Series  we take a deeper dive into the inspiration behind the color "Cascara" as we sit down with Jared Truby, Founder of Cat & Cloud. Cat & Cloud has strong ties to coffee-growing regions of Honduras, and Jared has had the opportunity to visit and build relationships with coffee farmers in the area over the years.

Beyond Jared's passion for Honduran coffee, he is larger than life character with an attitude, mindset, and philosophy built on positivity and empowering others. Tune in for a fun conversation on business, coffee, and the wonder of Honduras.

Jared is passionate about coffee. Many people claim they love coffee, but Jared has dedicated his life to it. A professional barista for 20+ years, winner of the US Barista Championships, inventor of the "one and one," and now a cafe ownerJared has seen a bit of it all in the coffee world. Beyond the art of roasting and brewing, Jared has embraced the art of sourcing coffee. At least once a year, Jared and a few members of his team hop on a plane to go learn about where their coffee is grown, building relationships with farmers along the way.

Throughout all his travels, one place has always brought him back Honduras. Along their journey, Cat & Cloud has managed to establish deep roots in the country of Honduras, and now source a large portion of their beans from a few local growers. They have even gone as far as buying all the crops from one of their favorite farmers, Wilson Morales, to roast for one of their signature coffees. Jared has found something special in the hilly regions of Honduras, and he keeps going back, time and time again.

We like to think that great minds (and great partners!) think alike, and we have to agree with Jared on this one. When our Marketing + Impact team had the opportunity to visit the Lempira region of Honduras back in 2017, we knew we had stumbled upon something special. Cascara was inspired by that trip to the rugged, coffee-growing regions of Honduras to visit a new water system being installed by Water 1st with the goal of “ending the walk for water." Along with all the incredible people met along the way, Cascara pays special homage to Santiago, a young boy who stole our hearts with his smile and passion for a future with clean water.
